And it's just the assumption of "the water will drain out no matter what " that upsets me, and according to our...
That is why I was saying "SEALED" with a gasket under the lid held down by some nylon screws.
As for the bubbles they'll be flushed out with the water flow.If there is no flow there is no point...
Wow the dispaly is beautiful !!
Very crude Paint drawing to explain my idea....... "sealed" upflow air scrubber (pump has venturi) and the algae will stay in water with a loss in electricity.

OK, so I guess I badly express my self, and it's pretty obvious to understand......
So read carefully what I say:
http://osmosisaquariums.gr/images/stories/2.jpg
LOL I did not say much...
No, i'm talking about having the "box UAS thingy" sitting above the sump level (it's ugly to have stuff around a nice looking tank).
If the pump feeding it is below water level, and the hose...
If the pump stays submerged and the exit tube as well, there will be no back syphon at all.
As no air can get in it :)
PS:
Look at this one:
...
So this is more or less what i was talking about, but i'll have the flow bottom up, and sealed, driven by a pump + venturi for bubbles :)
I don't have my reef tank setup yet, still missing some stuff to finish it (quite an investment).
So it's all by deduction and theory, and usually i am good at mecanical flow stuff (part of my job...
I guess the upflow is for the bubbles, they usually go up in water :)
And maybe, really maybe, it'll help the algae strands from collapsing and thus giving more light and "food" to the roots (if...
In the design we're talking about there is no more stone, just a tube with holes in it, like a spray bar.
Or did i miss something ?
sounds like it !
And i would even add some kind of wight at the screen bottom to keep it vertical
you just leave this sitting directly on top of the powerhead, and if the scrubber "fixture" is above the sump no need for real waterproof lights no ?
ok, so here is bad drawing of it...

But put a water tight lid with nylon screws and seal + leds on the out side.
Water + air (venturi on a PH) comes from bottom, the screen is in the...
Almost spot on !
I'm pretty bad at drawings, so.....
And the circulation will be bottom > top
No, as the power head is fed with a venturi intake, like on a skimmer
So it'll see both water flow and air at the same time, and you can even make it a sealed, just a couple of nylon bolts to remove...
Why not, for an external use an acrylic box, like the nano 1 made by SM, but fed from the bottom with a powerhead + venturi going though a perforated or slotted tube, and the exit at the top ?
Other idea will be to make a setup like those designed for engraving PCB like this:

But with an entry point and...
The airstone is wood actually ??
http://karnet.up.wroc.pl/~weber/rys6.gif
To read this Article about organic/inorganic phoforus ine sea water
So it has to be PO4, thus what is in the skimmer's cup.
no ?
Here is an analysis on wet and dry Skimmer skimmate : article
That's the name of the section it's in :)
So where's the sulfate coming from ????
Sounds good
And might need to buy a chiller after that !
LOL :)
I do agree, but i think i'll stay with the "old school" system :)
If it's that complicated to get a significant result over a standard design, why bother changing ? Except for "wannbe a scientist" fun experiments.
I know for FW aquaria, you need a lot of CO2 when the water is not soft enough do drop the PH level by a couple of points.
Adding CO2 ? I thought it was a "Simple less expensive" way of filtering a tank ?
And due by the size of my tank, i'll not put any "box" inside, even les if it contains mineral oil for cooling...
Just stick with the 1 that works for you.
And maybe you'll try the airstone thingy just to satisfy your curiosity :)
So it can be considered by some members as a Xnd style of scrubber.
Exactly !
So, this is th NEW DESIGN SM is bragging about ??
That's cool, so now my sump will be even better and 1 pump removed is heat removed as well from the water :)
Sweet !
Why have I never seen this topic ?? it's great !!!!!
LOL :)
Of course there will be like 20Kgs (or more) of LR
Hi people,
I am just wondering if i should go with an in-sump-DSB and the scrubber or just the scrubber ?
For info the tank is like a JBJ 28G, but will be rim-less, hood-less, internal sump-less,...
So, you have this mix of jaubert/dsb since the begginning of the tank ?
Can you share some dimensions and specs about it ?
I have been reading about the "true" Jaubert system, it requires light...
Looks good
Ah i just saw the airstone stuff .......so it's not that at all.....
Take a clear open top acrylic box, like 10" long x 2w x 2h.
Entry on 1 small side and exit on opposite.
Make a lid with the screen material hanging in the middle et voila !
Attache lights on each...
Looks very nice indeed !!
And do you find any benefits from having a fuge and a plenum ?? (btw what do you call a plenum ? like in the Jaubert system ?)
So, this place is more "open minded" as it seems :)
Very good !!!
And i'll post pics on the way as well.....but for the moment I'm in Austria for work, and actually when I think about it, the...
Wonderfull tank you have !!!
I am going to make a new reef tank as well and start like you >>> Skimmer less :)
BTW, lived in Holland for 4 years, Haarlem....
Tnx guys, it comforts me to know it can be done w/o any doubts :)
The tank has a 150w MH already fitted in the hood + 8 blue LEDs.
Not planning to use a sump, but I am going to drill a 50mm...
Hi all...
I've been reading through this forum for the last couple of days, and currently have a 200 liter FW tank (same setup as an RSM) but added a very big Eheim canister....
And since a...
