Nice vids Floyd. Makes it look very easy especially when the LED's come in blocks like that. A bit more difficult when they come as singles though.

Trying this week with 18/6 lighting, see if that helps lower the N and P. I cannot find any diffuser sheets over here yet, but still looking.

It has now been about 10 weeks since I started with the LED scrubber, and there has been no increase in the amount of algae on the screen each week as well as not significant drop in Nitrate or...
hat will teach me to brag about not having any Hair Algae in my tank. Never had any in 7 years and now I have started a scrubber, I have a patch of green hair algae appearing on the rear glass of my...
I was wondering if an in sump UAS would work with just having the lights on the outside of the sump and the screen and bubbler inside but not fitted into a box.

A pic of my LED scrubber after 7 weeks showing the last 7 days growth

Just a pic of my tank with only scrubber as...
Latest pic of 1 weeks growth

The pic looks like it is growing in the centre of the screen only. Do I put another...
Beer cans in preference to pop cans. They are bigger and lots more fun to empty.

My copperband nicks the food intended for the rest of the fish. However, I am going away today for a few days and No. 1 son is looking after the feeding. Anything could happen.
Dennis
Going away for 9 days today, but I may have a look at this when I come back. I do have a couple of PC case fans but they are 4" dia. A CPU fan may fir into my ATS top though.
Dennis
My ATS is in the sump as is fully enclosed. No room for a fan.
Dennis
I wish my copperband would. Only interested in frozen food.
Since starting my scrubber about 6 weeks ago, I have removed my skimmer and only performed 1 10% water change as well as uping my feeding from 2 cubes to 4 per day.
I have changed my lighting...
I have a 4ft bought LED unit (Inwatter) over my display tank. It comes with 55 deg lenses fitted as standard and they can be upgraded to 60 deg.
What I would like to know is, 1) will it be worth...
Like I said, just curiosity. If there was no hair algae in the display tank why should I expect hair algae on the scrubber.
After 4 weeks with the LED's and a new screen, I am getting plenty of...
Just out of curiosity, I have only been reefing for 7 years and I have never had any hair algae of any colour in my tank or sump apart from a small amount on my weir comb.
If there is no hair algae...
I bought 2 LPC-35-700. drivers before I started and as I have them, then I may as well use them. It gives me the opportunity to add more LED's if required.
I seem to remember that you advocate 1...
Correct Floyd. The lights were further apart just for the pic. I have just remeasured and they are 4 1/2" from LED to LED, and the screen chamber is 3 1/4" outside measurement. 2 3/4 inside.
Just...
The lights were on 18/6 for the first week, but you suggested on another thread to make it 12/12 and lower the flow to about 25 gph so it has been set at that for the last 2 weeks. Not been cleaned...

After 3 weeks with the LED's and both sides are the same.
I reduced the lighting to 12/12 and the water flow to...
Just wondered what everyone does with the algae they have scrapper from their screens.
I have read that some people use it in a bucket for pod cultivation and also feed their tangs with it.
...
Just been reading this and other trials and it seems to me that the biggest problem is to get the bubbles to go up the screen.
Could you not bend a thin piece of acrylic around the airstone so...
Great minds think alike mate.
The only difference is that my box is 18" long to allow it to rest on the sump dividers, but I did drill 2 drain holes in the base
Dennis
Apart from the water pipes, that is exactly the same as my Ats
That looks remarkably like a Tunze overflow box to me.
Dennis
Do I need to alter the timing. At present, 18 on 6 off.
Dennis
Just read all the way through and to say I am confused is putting it mildly.
Cheaper to make and run. What about the £150.00 I have spent over the last 3 months building an ATS. Wasted?
I have...

These are my 2 sets of LED's before fitting.

I have had my LED's running for 2 weeks now and no green growth yet.
I have a 7x7 screen with 6 x 660 reds in a circle and a blue 455 in the centre. 1 each of this setup on each side of the screen...
Just been shopping and got the chicken wire. Don't know how its going to fit tho' LOL
I think it is about time we on this side of the pond, had an advatage LOL
Dennis
New screen and LED's been up and running for 1 week now. I have made a 7x7 screen this time as I think I underestimated the food I was putting in the tank and upped the flow accordingly. The lights...
1st of May comes earlier in UK. Does that mean we can see it before anyone in US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gone back to the slotand also fitted a new fabric screen. Silence at last.
Dennis
I am having trouble with the 'morgan' method. I cannot stop the dripping water sound. Tried the plastic bag. I think I will be going back to the slot method.

Found out today that my heatsinks will be delivered tomorrow. Had to pay £19.09 VAT and duty (about $27). Makes it an expensive build so I hope it is worth it LOL
Dennis
I left mine for 3 weeks before my first clean, just 1 side.
Dennis
Nearly tossed it, but then I would have been 6sq" short. Also thought about fitting a complete new piece, but then I would be starting over again.
Dennis
The extra strip at the side is a piece I cut off the bottom. I had to do this when I fitted the 'Morgan' mod as the screen was resting on the bottom of the scrubber.
Dennis
3 weeks going and looks ok to me

Only switched them on to make sure they work ok.
I will be running both drivers just in case I either do an upgrade or decide to put extra LED's on this ATS.
Dennis
I have all my bits and pieces for the LED build except for the heatsinks. These are coming from heatsinkusa and at present they are in GB postal system, but it looks like I have some customs duty to...
Same here mate. I have had my ATS running for 2 weeks. I have removed my skimmer and phos reactor after 1 week so hoping everything will be ok. My mesh hasn't been through the brown or oily stage,...
It is plastic coated wire which has now been changed.
Dennis
I have just tested my parameters and found that both Nitrate and Phosphate have increased.
Nitrate from 15 to 25
Phosphate from .125 to .25 although it was just after feeding which may have some...
I wish I could get that amount of pods in my tank or sump. Looks very good to me.

I am very happy with the results so far, however I have just fitted CFL spotlights to each side as the previous lights were proving very...
I will try it without then first and if it gets to warm, I will fit one afterwards.

Next BASIC question.
I am fitting a heatsink to each side of the present scrubber and each 1 will be 10" x 7". The heatsink is from heatsinksusa and are finned 2" deep. I will be fitting 9 x 3W...
