...Its just some uPVC 40mm architrave I had in in my van :) I siliconed it to the top edge of the pipe, seems to have done the job!
...I know, I know :D
....I knew I should of listened to my Chemistry teacher.
Thanks anyway! :)
......Now I'm confused, how can PH increase but Alkalinity decrease :?
Not doubting you Santa, I just can't get my head around it......
I did this:

As Kerry says, you basically just need to stop any light reaching the slot.
I would say if anything it slightly lowers PH but not by much, this is due mainly to the release of Amino Acids into the display, I have crap a water supply with totally zilch buffering capacities...
Its looking great Kerry! 8-)
Some nice growth starting there Kerry! Looks better than mine did on my first week! 8-)
Nitrates should start coming down in a few weeks time!
Thanks Kerry, I was looking for one this side of the pond though :), If I have no joy over here I'll contact them and ask about international shipping, thanks again! 8-)
If you mean splashing as in when it runs off the screen, then have some screen lowered into the water level 10mm would do it, if you mean splashing as squirting as it comes out of the slot, then the...
Well Santa, you have just confirmed once again to be the Oracle of all Algae Scrubbers as I woke up this morning to find tiny strands of hair algae floating around in my tank :x Seriously, never...
LOL, I don't know what he hell I was searching for then, cause ebay is awash with it  , I think I was looking for knitted canvas for some strange reason :? .....Many thanks anyway!!! :)
Thanks Santa, TBH that screen has always been the weakest link in my setup and I've known it all along, I will try and track down some of the plastic canvas stuff - Do you or anyone know of a good...
Sunday Screen Clean -
This is day 7, there is usually slightly more 3D growth after the 7 days, but as third picture shows, there may be a reason why :D

This is from the back of the light unit:

I think if you Google Brackenheath Floodlight you will find them, as all the ones I have seen are a 36w spiral...
Hi Santa, do you mean of the whole light unit or the bulb? Eitherway I will have a look for numbers now! :)
IMO I reckon the big manufacturers know that they will continue to make more money on their Skimmers/Filters etc + the on-going need for the consumables that go with them, a large percentage of these...
Plants do not readily absorb rust (Ferrous Oxide) unless they are totally desperate, it is the chelated iron that you need - As non-chelated iron (or Free Iron) is toxic to fish!! So AFAIK putting...
....Also I'm not sure that the same strains of SW Algae can actually grow in FW conditions and Visa-Versa, so I'm unsure that the crossover seeding will have much effect - I'm sure someone more...
....Yeah Co2 will definitely lower the PH, via the production of carbonic acid - which is the result of carbon dioxide dissolving in water....You can also try dosing with chelated iron, that will...
Doh.....Just re-read I though by your OP title you were asking for ideas, my bad
I found some cheap Brackenheath 36w portable floodlights on eBay, £9.95 each Plus a single postage charge of £4.95 so less than £25 for 72W
I ended using some Arcadia Arc-Pods with cheap 2700k G23's...
Thanks Santa, and thanks for the info you have shared on the WWW too!!
I suppose it is perfectly logical that is what's happening regards the slight rise by the week-end, that's why I feel a double...
Hi Kerry,
I'm sure if your tank can hit 80 in a week you will be growing the green stuff in no time!
Also although it may seem a waste (depends on how you look at it I suppose) Co2 injection helps...
Thanks Kerry, yes I have to agree not too much information about FW setups out there, some was a little misleading too, TBH I think it’s still a bit of a Taboo amongst the diehard freshwater...
Hi all,
After doing plenty of WWW research and separating the wheat from the chaff I finally designed my own scrubber, obviously based around the basic requirements of flow & light as laid down in...
