The purpose of a scrubber is to remove nutrients, not to just grow for fun. If you are not feeding the tank, it is not going to grow.

If you have nothing, you get nothing. And when you do put livestock into the tank and feed, don't concentrate too much on how the algae looks/grows, concentrate on the ammonia/phosphate/nitrate/nitrite readings it generates. And be sure if it is slick/dark/oily to remove it every 3 days until it starts to grow green.

you can feed some fish food to your empty tank or you can just get your first fish!
