    Wattage vs. Hours -- Corrected

More watts with less hours, is always better that more hours with less watts. This is because as the light intensity increase, algae produce more physical growth and less DOC. If you reduce the wattage and increase the hours, algae produce less physical growth and more DOC.

DOC is great for feeding corals, but you can't harvest it and so you can't get those nutrients out of the system. You want physical growth which requires stronger light, even if it means running it for less hours (so that the algae don't turn yellow).

So what's the best amount of hrs to be running? My screen size will be 7.5"W x 3"H with two 3W LEDs on each side totaling 12W of light.

Just do it by algae color. Yellow growth needs less hours, or more flow/iron. Dark growth needs more hours.
