My ATS, the author from China.

Very pleased to be here, I am a aquarium enthusiasts from China.
My English is not very good, and sometimes need the help of Google tools to translate Chinese into English.
June this year, I started using ATS, as an auxiliary filter to use.

This is a recent photograph of my aquarium, not very beautiful, please do not laugh at.

This is my cabinet and the equipment inside.
A water supply for the protein remover, another water supply for the ATS.
Two pipes can provide a total of 13,000 liters of water per hour, of which 3000-4000 liters per hour provided to the ATS.

I use LED lights for the ATS lighting.
My LED, there are 16 to 2900-3100K color temperature of light beads of 3W.

ATS after a week's work, can be reached in the map above.
My ATS Size: 25 inches * 12 inches, one has two.

I don't know, the red algae is able to reduce the content of NO3 in the aquarium.
Aquarists who can give me the answer.

In the U.S. there are many aquarists in the use of LED lighting for the ATS?
Finally, very happy to be friends with the U.S. aquarists exchange of experience.

    Welcome to the forum.

Yes, any algae will consume nutrients from your aquarium. But green hair algae will consume much much more because the water and light go through the algae. Dark algae will block the water and light.

Unfortunately your LED's are not going to grow green hair algae. You have to replace them with low-cost CFL (compact fluorescent lights). And since your screens are shaped like a "V", you will need to get the lights down into them as far as possible without getting them wet.

    See here for examples:

    Thank you for your reply.
    Continue to ask two questions:
1, how much should choose the color temperature of the CFL (compact fluorescent lights), warm light? Cold?
2, the water flow there any requirements?

    Water flow looks good.

Color should be 2700 or 3000K, which is "warm" or "soft".

My opinion is if you replace all your white LEDs with 660nm Red LEDs you will get much more growth and it will be green. CFLs will work as well but you already have the LED setup in place, simply replacing the LEDs with different ones will fix your problem in my opinion. If you can find 640nm Reds you could mix in a 2:1 ratio of 660nm/640nm. The wavelength is very important, if your off 10 nanometers in either direction it can severely reduce growth so a 620nm Red, if that is what it actually puts out, will not work well.
