    Iron Supplement

    Hello!

    My lokal aquarium shop have no Iron supplement.

    Is it possible to use Iron pills that you can by at the drug store? Just disolve the pills in RO DI water?

    I have a box of pills and the label of content is:

    •The active substance is: iron(II)sulfat 300 mg equivalent 100 mg Fe++.

    • excipients is: laktose, fumarsyre, glycerolester, magnesiumstearat (E 572), ironoksid (E 172), hydroksypropylmetylcellulose (E 464), metylcellulose (E 461), makrogol 6000, titandioksid (E 171), fast parafin.

    FYI: The recommended DIY is to use Fergon tablets. Be careful using house brands as they have higher phosphate levels. If you using an appropriately sized ATS the amount of phosphate may be negligable.

    The "gluconate" is glucose, which will feed bacteria. However glucose is released in large amounts by algae, so it probably won't add much more.

    I feed lots of nori, which has pretty much stopped the need to dose iron.
