Twice daily photo period

Has anyone experimented with two 12 hour photo cycles rather than one 24 hour cycle?

I know it is "unnatural" but it seems like I might be able to get more usable light to the algae with two 8 on/4 off cycles than with one 16 on/8 off cycle.

Right now if I go more than 16 hours on, I burn the algae with my LEDs.

Shorter hours, more often, is supposed to be better. But I lost the study about it.
