    Cleaning the scrubber

Swear I did a search, and imagine the answer is somewhere, but I cannot find it.

We rough up the plastic canvas so that the algae will attach to it...How does one clean the canvas weekly without smoothing it back out? I use a scraper and after 6 weeks, my canvas feel smooth again. Obviously not the way to do it?

I use a plastic pot scraper like the Pampered Chef ones and have only used a hacksaw blade to re-rough the screen once in 16 months. As long as you need to scrape the algae to get it off, you're fine. IMO roughing the screen is the most important for the curing period so that the algae establishes a foothold on the material, the more surface area the better the initial foothold.
