    Scrubber for Shallow Reef

    Here is a scrubber I built for my shallow reef. This tank suffers from nitrates around 8ppm all the time, even though it has a good working skimmer and refugium with DSB.

    The tank is a custom acrylic shallow with center overflow. It measures 48l x 18w x8h". The whole system with refugium holds about 50 gallons. I'll post some pics of this later when the lights come on.

    Inhabitants are a strawberry basslet, yellow tang and a happy domino damsel. Yes, I know the damsel is a jerk, but he's adorable. One of my favorite fish. Various Soft, LPS corals and frags from my prop system and a clean up crew.

    Here is the scrubber about a week ago, nitrates were around 8ppm. The screen was pretty patchy:

    Here is the scrubber today, I havent tested the nitrates yet. The growth is solid but dark brown:

    I'm assuming when the green starts to go, that will be the cue that nutrients are dropping?
