reason I also say this as hints have been thats it could be really low cost, we should have things laying around already to make it.. If you have been around tanks long enough most folks have air hose a air stone and a pump..

A good designed one would eliminate a few of the issues we have with the current design.

That is if it actually works.

say if its a cereal box shape clear acrylic with water entering at the bottom of one side or two.. pushing water up and over a weir style or exiting another hole at top with pipe connected to return to tank. air stone at the bottom creating more up draft and injecting the air.. or a bubble master pump injecting air like a skimmer.
perfectly configured leds to blast it with..

I also saw a guy on youtube that had dumped a screen into his tank at the back and had an air stone under it (fresh water tank) and was growing green stuff under his normal tank light.. not sure if it was the right green stuff but non the less it was growing.. I thought if the bubbles were smaller and better light that could work..

    Take a clear open top acrylic box, like 10" long x 2w x 2h.
Entry on 1 small side and exit on opposite.
Make a lid with the screen material hanging in the middle et voila !
Attache lights on each side of course.

Seems a bit too simple, but that's my idea, no more slot, pipes or what ever.
It's a mix of the horizontal and the vertical scrubber.
Still needs some tweaking to complete the design though.

The scrubber will be submerged, as Whites pointed out, he's got the biggest growth in the bottom always exposed to the water

Before i built my scrubber on my 125gal. alage would grow inside my overflow box nice and long and green in the underwater portion. Now that i realize what a ats does and remember when i would skip the cleaning of alage in the overflow box the tank looked very free of alage.i guess the display lights were spiling into the overflow box creating somewhat of a scrubber.
