I have tried this for two weeks and just stopped a couple days ago. I was getting OK growth but my algae way sucking up my Alk (bicarb) and after not seeing much of a difference I stopped. I cant say that I seen any growth difference.

is santa out there?? what does my dark dark green algae mean?
I'm not Santa but I know what he will say. Dark growth always means not enough light. So what you got shining on your screen?
o yea my bulbs are about 2" away from the screen and I will soon be replacing with LED's (this fall)
happy queen day garf! thanks for the quick response!
well my screen measures 14" long by 6" tall has TONS of flow and is lit by 4 (2 each side) 24 watt 2700K spiral CFL's. the reflectors are the "soda can" style but larger because I used 5 gallon buckets cut down with mylar inside them.
Yes it's not enough light. Probably because of the reflectors; you are losing half the light.
how many watts of led light should I go with when i replace?
I'd fix the reflectors first, so that all of the light hits the screen.
