I have just made a scrubber and the slot i cut was the width of a hacksaw blade so about 1-2mm.Is this big enough as i am getting the odd bit of water spraying away from the mess after its been running for a few hours.

3 to 4 mm is the recommended slot width. I used a dremmel grinding wheel, run at high speed in a drill. These are 3.5 mm in width and perfect for slot pipes.
I run mine through my table saw. BE CAREFUL!!! I set my blade very low.
