    Asterina Stars - smoking gun

    It has long been assumed by most that Asterina starfish only ate the dying segments of corals such as Monti digi and acropora or the algae that were invading a dying coral. I have evidence that this is not correct;

    This next pic clearly shows the band of eaten polyps after I removed the star with a large wooden skewer. This was a healthy area yesterday.

    They do snack on healthy coral!!! I have a harlequin shrimp to keep mine in check. Mine like the zoas. I even take them from the other tanks and give them to the harlequin, he is so spoiled now he knows I am giving him food and does not run from my hand any more.

    May be you are on short side for damaged corals ? lol

    I just did a dip today due to these guys. Also have Nudies enjoying themselves on what few corals I have going. If I ever set up my other tank I may have to dip everything before adding.
