    Screen growth progression

At what point in the growth progression does the scrubber become effective enough to be the only filter on the tank?

My 55 with a 30gal. sump has 7 fish and many mostly healthy soft, and a few half alive sps and lps. I think the decline is due to the algae covering the coral and the siphoning of the algae every other day or so. I started the LED waterfall and I removed the skimmer and the PO4 biopellet reactor 2 weeks ago. The green/brown stringy algae grows daily. I'm concerned about the livestock now that the scrubber is the only device capable of removing nutrient, and there is still no algae on the screen.

If there is no screen growth, then you have no filter.
