    jaczal UAS without air bubbles

    Hello!
I really liked the concept of UAS, so I started testing this solution. The movement of water with air bubbles caused by the screen is for me, one drawback. Too much air noise. For this reason I gave the screen of returning water to the aquarium.
Below are links to photos of the prototype.

For lighting I used 1 meter SMD3528 LED strip light pink.

Screen away from the light 3 cm after 7 days.

Screen removed after 14 days to scrape.
It seems to me that algal growth is satisfactory, so proceeded to build the destination UAS located in the sump. Of course, the flow of water on the screen is created by the water returning to the aquarium.

PS Sorry for the style of writing, but I'm using a translator.

So it appears that the submerged screen works after all - without the bubbles.

Very interesting, im not surprised as algae can grow quite nicely in a display tank without bubbles.
I've been struggling with my uas for awhile now and have suspected that the screen is not getting enough water movement, I don't think the bubbles moving past the screen can move the same amount of water that a waterfall scrubber can do, resulting in less nutrients being delivered to the algae. I've recently added a power head to my sump directing more flow towards the screen as an experiment to see if it increases growth.
Out of curiosity do you know how much flow is going past your screen?

In parallel, I have installed AS, and recently compared the performance growth of algae.
    AS
    White light (3000K smd5050 LED strip) 0.77 W / 1 inch square
Mass of the collected algae 0.5942 g / 1 inch square
    UAS
    Light pink (SMD3528 LED strip) 0.1677 W / 1 inch square
Mass of the collected algae 0.6735 g / 1 inch square
As you can see algae growth was greater in the UAS of 13.3% at a much lower power consumption.
The prototype UAS have the water flow 7.5 liters / 1 minute

    Is the screen fully submerged?

I'm completely immersed the screen. It has a dimension of 13 cm by 14 cm. The light from one side.

I am confused. How is this a UAS? Isnt this more like a submerged waterfall scrubber?

This is not a very fair comparison, however, because your light sources are different. The white LED 3000K light is not comparable to fluorescent because of the source of light, which is mercury based in fluorescent then shifted with phosphors, so there is a lot of red and blue, vs LEDs which are element based and for 3000K white have very little if any red or blue component. Then your pink probably has a lot more red component to it.

The true test would be to use the same light source on both, then at least you would have more of an apples-to-apples comparison.

    Just sayin.
