I have a Penn-plax B11 battery backup air stone on each tank at all times just in case. It automatically starts when the wall outlet loses power. The large size D battery's go for about 18hrs.

With a water fall ATS I would drop the screen in the sump to keep it wet if I was home.

I have several methods to keep my tanks going during power outages, although hurricanes are the last thing I need to worry about in Cali.

    1. Battery operated air pump / stone
    2. APC 1500 Battery Backup (keeps return pump and Vortech MP40 going for 6 hours)
    3. Big Power Inverter for car and long extension cord. Allows me to run a heater in extended power outage / cold weather.
    4. Generator (last resort as I live in an apartment complex and running a generator is noisy so I use that as a last resort, only needed it twice in 20 years).

    I'm screwed.

Well... that is my plan right now. Maybe go out and buy a car battery and an inverter.

When's it due ? In the UK we ain't had a big load of wind since 87. I know that because it was on the day of my commandants inspection. 1 week of buffing and cleaning to wake up to loads of downed trees and crap everywhere.
