Yup, consider anyone here talking about Watts of light as compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL)
This is also the real power that the bulb uses rather than what an incandescent bulb would use to get the equivalent amount of light (which is a fairly useless number these days unless you're not used to energy saving bulbs - I generally think like this: 11w is for a pretty small room, 22w for a medium room and 2x22w or more for a large room, but ignore my mumbling, this has nothing to do with algae scrubbers).

A small 60 square inch (3 X 20 trough) one-sided screen should be fine, with a since 23W cfl on it.
Still confused??? When the bulb is a 23 watt but says it is a 90 watt equivalent. For growing algae, is it considered a 23 watt or a 90 watt?
