Hang on-back design - convert an old power filter

    Hi,

I'm not even sure if this is possible, but given the designs I've seen of UAS, I would think it would work. I'm going to have to learn how to use google sketchup. For my lack of drawing skills, take an aquaclear power filter for example. The first assumption is that the outer body is clear, and if it not, a window is created on both sides of the filter (front and back). Add a plastic screen or two and hold them in place in the center, with air stones at the bottom. The flow from tank to filter back to tank will use the filter's motor. I'm not sure the airstone is needed, but I can't see it hurting anything. Affix some LEDs to the front and back of the filter, and now you a HOB scrubber.

    1. Do you really need the airstone?
    2. Will the flow of water from the filter pump cause a problem with water not necessarily going up along the screen. You'll have water flowing any different directions.

Have I totally lost my mind?

Yes you will need bubbles. I'd use sliced airline.

Would the flow of the filter affect adversely affect it. I can't say for sure myself, because the chamber is pretty small, but it may sway the bubbles out of the way of the screen.
