No skimmer / phos reactor etc

Those with successful hard coral tanks running algae scrubbers, do they use skimmers, any reactors of sorts or phos still or can you ditch all that?

My tank is about 5 weeks old, but only just set my scrubber up today. I have the typical diatoms and hair algae all over right now.

Nitrates reading 1ppm (very faint reading on tropic marin test) phos 0.08 with hanna phosphorus checker converted to phosphate for reading.

Just wondering where to go from here.

    Welcome.

Some do, some don't. Yes you can do without other filters if you have rock and sand, and your scrubber works correctly and does not break.
