    aahh it was a fail

algae grew well on the sharp edges of the drilled holes in the box. Rocks just grew coraline and light green algae that looked like it was painted on. couldn't attach to the rocks i guess

    back to super rough canvas

I think I will use a toothbrush from now on to clean the screen a metal or plastic scraper smoothed out the screen after about 2nd cleaning.

I thought the porous rocks would work but i guess not

sharp (rough) doesn't work the same as porous.

I'm basically trying to find a new screen material that is the same or a little better than canvas but won't dull over time.

I might try a coarse, stiff, white filter pad at some point.

Well you only gave it 2 weeks. It could have been many other factors. My UAS took months of tweaking before I got any growth besides slime and dinos.

Nick, do you have problems with canvas over time? I have not. Once there is algae attached to it, especially in the holes, that layer forms an anchoring bed. I have not had any problems.
