    New surf2

I have a surf2 that has been running about 5 days. I have a lot of green hair algae and I read somewhere if that was the case then I should filter the light for about a month. Would the plastic canvas material that most people build scrubbers from work to filter the less or should I use something else?

    Welcome,

It's actually more about the nutrients in the water. Lots of nuisance algae on your rocks will *sometimes* reduce the nutrients to low values. In that case, your SURF2 strings and textures will stay white because the scrubber light is too strong for the amount of nutrients, and the scrubber algae cannot attach inside the scrubber.

However your nutrients might not be low. It takes 5 days anyway, in any situation, to see any growth at all (using a white light to look), so unless you know your nutrients, just wait another 5 days and see if growth develops. It it's still paper-white, then yes you can use a layer of canvas, t-shirt, stockings, etc to cover it for a while.
