    Lift the box out of the water and let it drain, and see if you can see pods running around.

    I have used FW for years to rinse my screens and have never had anything restart or go to yellow. If you are having issues its likely not the freshwater rinse. You need to be sure you have good flow and the right light. Yellow normally means to much light or you have something competing with the scrubber. If you have macro that might be it.

    Oh, there's definitely amphipods running around in there! I have a ton, also mysids, throughout the tank system. They come right back into the surf a day or so after rinsing out.

    Well for a test just get out as many as possible and soak in FW for 5 minutes after a cleaning. I just did it and did not see any pods after a week.
