    Another DIY UAS

    Hello

A mate asked me to make him up a bubbler so I thought I'd show some pics here.

I couldn't find anything like SM's covers for it - all the microwave dinners are boxed here so it was impossible to see. So I went for some butchers plastic trays instead. A little heavier so the magnets cost more. This made the screen size about 7"x10" so I thought I'd super light it up with 8 x 3w LEDs on two separate heatsinks. (I'm only starting it off with 4 x 3w LEDs till the screen greens up).

Because the unit needs to sit length ways in a sump, I couldn't get an air hose to bubble the full length of the screen with the air pump i have so I used an old air curtain I had. This works okay now but will have to wait and see how it goes when algae starts to cover it.

    Dry side

Wet side (coated the magnets in resin)

    Joined (it holds)

The magnets are only just holding on my gonni tank (10mm) but the intended sump placement has thinner glass so should be fine. I could use Velcro to keep the dry side (heavy side) in place once the right position is worked out. This would also help to keep the dry side in place when the screen is cleaned.

The screen is not glued either - just sits inside the cover which i think will help with easier cleaning.

    Cheers

I think you'll need red instead of blue in the middle; that's too big of a space for just blue.

Yeh maybe, I've still got to add 4 more reds (which will give it 2 rows top & bottom - I might even go all red depending on how the blue goes)

Not sure if you are still checking this but how did this scrubber work out for you. I really want to set up one similar

Yep still going well - the mate I made it for loves it. You do need to get the best possible airator though as the cheap ones tend to burn out quick. I think that a power head with an air intake would work better my self but I'm not using an up flow - my ATS is a waterfall.

    Cheers
