    My simple UAS

    Hi Folks,

time to show my first steps with a "test scrubber". If all goes right I will install a similar Scrubber in the sump of the tank. First a few pictures of the construction of my Scrubber.

I couldn't find a > 20W CFL so I ended upwith a 13W plant grow CFL (purple color, seems to work)

I use a spotlight (see reflector in picture above) for applying the light of the CFL.

Wow, this looks great! I'm glad to know that the 13W CFL for plants works well. This is the kind I plan on using if I ever get to build a scrubber of my own. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

    Hello SantaMonica,

it's a Saltwater Tank, but a cold one (temperate). Residents are from the mediterranien sea, the north sea and baltic sea - self collected. Mostly Anemones and Shrimps, only 2 Fishes, 2 sea urchins and a black brittle star.

    Update: Time for harvesting!

Although the 13W CFL is much to less - according the Algae Scrubber Basics - it seems to work great with a plant lamp. It has its peaks at 660 nm and 450 nm. Here are the pics from harvesting:

    Great ulva lactuca growth

Yours is a good example of how even-flow is not required across the screen, because the thick growth will re-route the flow anyway.

That grow light packs more usable light for the algae growth compared to a warm 2300 CFL. It looks good!! I would stick with what you have.
