Maybe you have it going vertically. Cover more, only leave 1" open.

The cloth is going horizontally, should it be vertical?

Does not matter but you do need to reduce the light more.

The part on the right that has brown: is that the covered or un-covered part?

The brown part is the uncovered section

Ok then uncover another third, and run for 7 days at 18 hours light a day.

    A couple of questions.

    1. How much air are you running through the HOG1? I can't see any bubbles from your picture, so I wonder if you don't have enough.

    2. How much are you feeding daily. If you are not feeding very much, you won't get much growth.

As for the cyano bacteria, usually this is caused by poor water quality, poor lighting or not enough circulation in your tank.

What are your tank chemistry readings? What are the Nitrite, Nitrate, Ph and Phosphate readings?

Hi, in response to your questions.

    1. You can see any bubbles as I turned it off to take the picture. Air flow is sufficent using the recomended tetra pump
    2. 1 cube per day
    3. Water quality is perfect, all reading zero and PH is 8.2

It's been a week since my last post so here is the latest picture:

The long piece from left to right was mainly off the aquarium glass

Switch the cloth, so that the top end is uncovered instead of the bottom end.
