green hair verses red turf

my question is why does everybody choose to grow the green hair instead of the red turf algae? i cant seem to grow anything but the red turf and i dont have none of all these different set-ups in there. just a simple screen floating on top with a light over it, nothing else.

Green hair grows faster, using stronger photosynthesis, because of the narrow shape, open structure, and partly-clear color. Most rapidly-colonizing algae are green.

it seems i must have found an old article when they thought the turf was best. at any rate my scrubber just grows the red turf and is doing the job, keeping everything down at near zero.
