    First algae scrubber!

Hello from Pakistan! I have been reading about algae scrubbers and wanted to build one for myself to try it. I need to know if there are any substitutes like fabric etc for the white plastic mesh since I can't find it here. Also what would be better for a 75 gallon saltwater, an HOG or waterfall? Thanks!

    Welcome from Pakistan,

Yes you can use any plastic material that is rough; cotton is not good though because it will rot. Polyester, nylon, dacron cloth is all good. Gardening weed-control cloth is good. Or just have some plastic canvas shipped to you.

Upflow or waterfall, depends on how much space you have, and how you want to harvest. Maybe some pics of the sump would help.

Plenty of room in the center. The roof looks low, so an upflow would fit the best and still give you open room on top of the sump.

An easy first upflow to build is simply LEDs on the outside of the glass, and a bubbler and screen on the inside, like this one:
