Latest growth. Green center with, dark purple outside. I have had a purple algae, growing for a long time inside my aquarium. It kind of resembles salt water coralline, and the African mbuna eat it as fast as it grows.Click image for larger version

It is a hair type alge, that grows well in my scrubber. It seams to do grow best at less than 10ppm nitrate.
The Gem lights are center in the green area. All 4 on one side. About 2 inches apert. About 3 to 5 inches away. My scrubber is angled, to to panel that hold the lights.
My nitrate is at 18ppm, after a wc 4 days ago. My tap is 12ppm.

Keep scraping/brushing it back to the white screen. You need as much white, and light as possible. Go to full time 24 hours of light if you are not already.

OK I will try that, 24x7 on, cleaned off algae.
Nitrates are at 14 ppm after a 40 percent wc.

Got it reconfigured, it is still one sided, with a full mirror reflector on the backside.
    Twice the water flow.
    Cleaned off the darker stuff.

Running lights 24/7 last 48 hours,
The LEDS are about 3" from scrubber plastic.

Nitrates are up at 18ppm, with cleaned scrubber.
The water is strait out of the tank, it was going through the w/d before.

Lights have been on 24/7 since last post.
I scrubbed off the brown spots and I think I should put them back on the timer. This is the first, 4 day growth at the new location, might of had a reduced water flow for a few days, I was out last 3 days.

Looks like nutrients are coming out. That will thin the growth too.

    Do 20 hours of light.

I repositioned the lights on the end of the scrubber. As I was getting burn with the lights 2" away.
I basically enclosed the scrubber with mirrors. Then placed the lights on the ends. The light is then reflected from a 5" distance. I let it go undisturbed for the week with a 18 hr on 6 off light.
It's a 50/50 mix of green and purple hair algae.
My sump has tinted glass so trying to back them off on the dry side of the sump. Won't work.
Nitrates are about the same as last week without any water changes.
