Here is one side of a RAIN2 screen, easily pulled up and out of the tray when you want to take it all to your sink for cleaning/brushing. This way you can brush out the pipe slot too.

Here is the other side of the same screen on the previous post; guess which side had more light.

You might think this is a big screen from a RAIN4 (which is now available again) but it's just a RAIN2. Also it's an older photo with the previous wide-style hanging tabs, whereas the current ones are a narrow-style unbreakable tab.

This brand new Green Grabber® screen is an "after market" alternative to replace the stock flat RAIN2 screen. This new screen has rails hand-cemented onto the flat screen, giving much more area for algae attachment in a small space. Slime has a difficult time holding on to waterfall screens because there is no water supporting it like bubble upflow models have, so the extra space and angled "hiding" areas allow the slime to hold on a few more days before detaching. Similarly, heavy thick growth will let go sooner because the thick growth blocks light and flow, causing the roots to die sooner and detach; the extra attachment areas on this screen will hold on to the dead roots a few days longer. The rails can be on one or two sides of the screen; one-sided is good for comparing your growth results on each side. It is available here:

The RAIN2 with two GEM5 lights is enough light for most situations, and allows you to silicone in two more lights later if needed.

This is a rare situation where a pole mount is not used, but a regular shelf on the top of the sump is not either. Instead this RAIN2 is on a shelf halfway down the sump.

Here is a nicely made DIY pole mount for a RAIN2, and a drain bulkhead added too. Note the microwave ready to cook algae.
