    New Tank

Hello. Will be setting up a new 20 gallon freshwater tank very soon. Looking to use a HOG1. Is it ok to use the HOG1 while the tank goes through a fishless cycle?

Also, can the HOG1 be the only filter I need? Not overstocking or feeding outside of the recommended limits.

    Thank you!

    Welcome.

Yes a HOG1 is a good choice for typical 20g setup. You can start scrubbers anytime; their growth (filtering) will just depend on how many nutrients are in the the water that need filtering. Typically, you will get some light brown or tan growth during a cycle, which is consuming the ammonia. (The light will need the shade cloth). Then when you add fish and start feeding, the growth will already be attached to the Green Grabber surface, and will darken and get thicker.

I am close to setting up finally. I plan to have live plants. Any problems/suggestions doing so?

Plants are not a problem; the scrubber will help keep algae off of them. See other uses too:

Once again, excellent . Is a UV sterilizer necessary/complimentary with the scrubber?

No a UV is not needed at all for filtering, and does not affect a scrubber. They are mostly for pests.
