Rain4 Help - Two Months In... Need help.

My Rain4 has been up and running for 2 months, but it's not doing much.

Attached is a photo. This is about all it's ever done - orange/brown slime looking stuff. And it's never been more than the amount you see in the photo, so I've never cleaned it yet.

I've tried various light, timer, flow settings, and I haven't seen much of a difference.

I just need some hand-holding on where to start - a plan of attack.

    Alk 8.9
    Nitrate 15
    Phos .17
    Calc 438
    pH 8.1

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Welcome. This is a Rain2, not 4. Sounds like you have the four-light option.

There is way too much light. Brush everything clean (including tray and slot), and only plug in 1 light on the top, for 18 hours. See how it looks in a week.

Never let go more than 2 weeks before cleaning.

Of course, yes it's the Rain2 with 4-light option.

I will brush it all clean, and go with one light for 18hrs a day. Should I rotate which light I use, or just pick one?

And so brush it clean every 2 weeks even if it only has a little growth on it?

Thanks so much for the help!

Keep the same light, so you can see what growth pattern fills in. Send a photo of the growth before cleaning.

Okay! It's been a week... I finally have some growth that looks like algae. Attached is a photo.

Where do I go from here?

Ok good, give it another week, and then lightly clean the screen in your sink, then see how it is in another week after that.

Copy that. Do I turn on another light or stay with 1 for the next week?

1 light, until most of the screen holes get filled in

Just as an update - if it tells us anything more... Attached are two photos, one of each side. The light that is on is the lower LED in "scruba5.27.jpg" - the lower section that has the least growth.
