One 'minor' problem is that the coast near me has a clay overlying cretaceous chalks so the water can have a high turbidity at times and i really don't want to run it through a floss first as this will remove plankton too...
You only fill your tank once. So go ahead and filter. You won't need to do any water changes if you run your scrubber properly.
maybe you could put your NSW into a holding tank of sorts and let the sand/clay/dirt, settle to the bottom,and keep the suspended plankton that survived ?
