got a new bulb today ,,but the only 40 watt spiral screw-in bulb i could find is a "cool white" with a color temp of around3000- 3700k will it still be ok?? it looks blue compared to my old 23 watt bulb witch is 2700k
Ok for now, get a 2700 or 3000 next time.
ok will do,, thanks! getting some green coverage but it looks like slime right now.
by the way,,, i have no means to measure the flow rate with any accuracy. my screen measures about 7x13 and my 40 watt coolwhite bulb is 3" away at its closest point,,is there a rule of thumb for flow? i turned the flow just past where the screen is getting totaly wet........
Get as much flow as you can without splashing.
3" is too close for 40 watts. Try 5.
ok 5"
you will be happy to know i got the right bulb 42 watt 2700k cfl,got it at target of all places lol
I think it's day 10,and I am getting some nice green coverage on my screen!! My water is clear and free of ammonia and nitrites. I have seen a few amphipods in the sump but no copopods yet. Hey santa,,what does the presence of the green hair algae tell you about my water? Note: there is a touch of red and green/brown slime algae/cyano on the botton 2" of screen as well.
Green mean nutrients in the water are not too high
