    light polution

my small 10 gallon sump is flooded with light from my ATS causing almost as much algae/cyano/slime to grow on the walls of the sump as on the screen. i would think this will make the ATS less efficient because for every gram of removable algae i have a gram of algae that i cant remove. i will try to shade the sump but it's so small that most of it will still have lots of light. this sunday will only be my second "real" cleaning so maybe i just have to wait for the screen to start working more?

Yes, but concentrating the light on the screen will help too.
