    Cleaning screen

For single layer screen, i wanted to know whether cleaning of algae is done on one side at a time or both sides simualtaneously?

    All at once is easiest.

    Re: Cleaning screen

Sorry to jump in on this thread, but I thought the screen was cleaned on alternate sides weekly to keep the filter working? I am coming up to week 2 and was going to clean the 2nd side this week having cleaned the first side last week, i'm getting a bit confused now :? . One last thing, how thoroughly? I cleaned last week with a toothbrush, but still left a light brown colouring on the screen.

    Thanks

    Mark

The whole thing at once is fine, unless you start getting nutrient spikes.

According to the SM videos I've seen, you should be able to use a toothbrush around week 3. Prior to that, you want to use your fingertips in a "hair shampooing" motion to get the loose dark algae off the screen.

so for filter to be continously working i suppose double layer should be preferred?

    Re: Cleaning screen

I think you mean double screen, not double layer. Two screens, each of a single layer.
