Bacteria buildup?

I've been useing my scrubber for several months with good results and have turned the skimmer off 2 weeks ago. There have been no noticable changes since then. I've been told that there will be an eventual crash as the bacteria load builds up. Is there any truth to this?

No, the bacteria are eaten by the corals and the zooplankton, like it is in the ocean.
