    Relationship between algae and bacteria

These were recently posted on RC and I wanted to re-post here to see if anyone had any thoughts or insight about this

This might explain the benefit behind adding in a little blue in an LED array.

Not that the graph, if accurate shows that the bacteria are at their highest concentration around the Chlorophyll "A" peaks on BOTH ends, namely 660nm and 420nm. Not 455nm.

I have been using 445 as a test because I had them left over from a display build. A 445 mixed in with four 660 seems to be better then just all 660 or maybe there is a difference because there was more light. I want to add a 5th 660 to side with four so I can get a good test, this way both sides will have 5 LED's. From what I see, 445 will not have any problems helping to grow algae.

I've got 10 660s and 4 630s per side, but I'm still getting algae in the display in some spots close to the lights. The display light is a mix of 455, 465 and cool whites. I'm getting lots of growth volume on the scrubber, but it doesn't seem to be "quality" growth for some reason. Flow is definitely not the issue. I'm hoping adding the 450s will help. I'm definitely revising my prior advice to people to just go all 660nm.

On my last screen cleaning the 4@660,1@445 had over an inch of 3D and the 4@660 had less then a 1/4". I did have it closer to the 4 LED side for a few days and got some yellowing so it was not an actual scientific test but, with the grow I had with the 4+1 I figured the 4 alone would have been more even with the burning. I am retesting this cycle to see for sure. Then next time I will be running the same 4+1 and the other I will add 1 more 660 to the all red side so I will have equal LED's on both sides. I want to rule out the extra LED light not being the factor is the reason for making them equal amounts.
