I need 12 watts on each side of my screen. I have 23 watt spiral CFLs, 2700k. Could I mount the bulbs without reflectors? Move the bulbs back further than 4"? Or should I just look for the correct bulbs?

The only light that counts is the light that hits the screen. If 100 percent of the light does not hit the screen, you need to increase the wattage so that you do get the needed wattage to hit the screen.
Also, more watts is better.. double watts half the hours help the screen get green faster
Thanks for the quick replies! I'll run them 9 hours a day. Should photoperiod be opposite DT?
