I have no idea how long it might take to detect if you're doing any damage. You might consider going more slowly at first.

My guess is that unlike too much/little light or nutrient availability, UV will probably do big damage quickly. It's not like you're underfeeding. It will either kill cells or it won't. Just a guess. One thing I know for certain- you'll know soon

Its a well working scrubber, has been for years now. I figured 15 minutes three times a day would let me know pretty quick if I am wasting my time or not.

As I continue to look around, I am finding quite a bit on the horticulture side. The light curves that are being currently offered look pretty similar to what we have been discussing. No one is using UV and the 730nm band is being used more for sunset rather than all day. I am straining to understand phytochrome and the Pr/Pfr relationship.

Maybe someone out there can point to this- I have seen it but cannot currently find it. I'm looking for spectral graphs on natural sunlight ranging incrementally from sunrise to sunset. I know I've seen it- I believe it was in relation to coral growth and it was (vague memory) done somewhere in the South Pacific. I am beginning to believe that triggering the shade avoidance mechanism is an important element to strong growth.

Well Tuesday I changed over all my 4450nm to 420nm UV and added an extra 420nm on the 40G tank. I have it running full time and at full power. All seems to great as of this morning, new growth is taking off just as before the change. I changed the LED's on cleaning day so I would have a fresh a start.
