This SURF2(tm) or 2x show an earlier stage of growth on top, and a more filled in stage on bottom. RAINs are for saltwater only. Reach in and grab some

Looks like the heads of two fish, close together and frozen in time, with so much fresh living algae to eat that they got stuck.

This SURF2 or 2x shows one of the upflowing bubble holes in the middle of the algae; these holes allow light to go deeper down into the growth.

A SURF2 floating in some extra space in a saltwater sump.

This SURF2 or 2x or 2xx scrubber® shows some of the bare Green Grabber® strings at the top, but if you look close you can see green growth following some of the other strings.

This SURF2 has four deep red 660nm LEDs inside the waterproof heavy weight sound-deadoning lid, and looks to be a new installation in a saltwater sump (skimmer is on the left). Since the ultra white color of the Green Grabber® strings and rocky textures make the red light too bright for algae growth, a black shade cloth is included and should be put over half the light until some color of growth covers the white surfaces. No other color of LED (blue, white, UV, etc) is used, because unlike trees, algae prefer pure red light.

The basic SURF2 needs only 6 x 8 inches of floating space, and only about 2 inches of water depth. Can go in sump or display. Saltwater only.

Of all the bubble upflow designs, the SURF2 like this one is the easiest of all to harvest in saltwater; just lift up the lid and grab. Of course you can't do this when it's slime, or when it's new (which is usually slime)... these require a trip to the sink under running water.
