How deep into the sump? / Introduction

    Hey all,

I'm in the process of setting up my first reef tank, and I've decided (against the wishes of the LFS) to go straight for a diy algae scrubber. Not making any allowances for a skimmer, so here's hoping it works .

Just planning the sump now and I've got a question - how deep do you need the water level to be where the screen enters it to keep it quiet? Is 10mm sufficient? Should I allow 50mm? Really no idea what's required here to keep it quiet.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

[A bit of info on the scrubber: Going for an 85cm x 35cm screen fed by a Laguna 11000 pump (~5500L/hour at calculated head), lit on just one side. (1 lit square inch per gallon - 220g tank, 43GPH/inch)]
